About

Lou Harriss is a furniture maker with a background in visual arts and design. After working for many years in communication design, Lou’s interest in working in three dimensions led her to furniture design and creation. She attended the Sturt School for Wood in 2018.

Working as a furniture maker provides a unique opportunity to combine time-honoured artisanal skills with contemporary, environmentally sustainable making practices. Today, Lou continues to evolve her craft and work within an innovative and flourishing furniture workshop in Sydney.

Lou’s practice centres around applying new and established techniques to create an aesthetic that is built upon beauty, simplicity and functionality.

She is currently focused on the opportunities present in Australian timber species and exploring how their distinctive qualities can take centre stage in a design ethos that complements modern lifestyles and furniture built for smaller spaces.
